So today apparently is free premium membership day. Apparently we're allowed to use journal skins and take advantage of no advertisements... among other things. Hence the reason for this journal entry. ^_^; Life has been fairly good as of late. I had my first wedding job on the 5th. It was such a chaotic experience, but totally worth all the pain and suffering. I'm going to be very lazy and copy and paste my status from FB to here. It's basically the highlights of my Sunday wedding adventure:
~Being blown away by the beauty of the venue. A PERFECT view of the San Diego Bay.
~Marriott staff taught me how to properly lay a tablecloth the old school way.
~Planner and staff butting heads with me in the middle.
~I stayed at reception area instead of going to the church because the bride was late, which in turn made the planner late, which in turn didn't give us enough time to set up initially.
~Planner left her phone and the "Just Married" car decorations with me by accident.
~Panic because the bride made escort cards, but didn't put any table numbers on them... so we had people's names on pretty water color paper, but no idea where people were sitting... and the staff asking me wtf to do because now they have no idea how to get the right food to the right person... Yeah. tldr: I had to stand next to the table and tell guests to sit where ever they want.
~I had to decorate entire space on my own with no idea of the vision.
~Had to cut and water succulents... meaning transfer water from a 5 gallon jug into vases with itty bitty holes. @_@;
~Had to display family heirloom antique fine china. (No pressure. OnO

~Worrying about all the decorations being blown in the ridiculous wind... and losing 2 glass vases in the process.
~Constantly looking for hiding places for all the boxes and junk.
~Planner rearranged everything I put together because the design isn't what she had in mind.
(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
~My injuries/grievances consisted of: Muddy shoes, cut finger from broken glass vase, burned fingers from lighting candles, swollen and blistered feet from being on them all day, hunger and dehydration. Though I did drink up like 5 water bottles. And stressed out since I couldn't get in touch with the planner, and dealing with late vendors. Oh and not being able to buy a drink before I left. Hahaha~
~Drunk Uncle Joe Schmo yappin' up a storm with me and the planner and getting somewhat touchy feely. D:
~Guest mistaking me for being Latina and speaking Spanish with me.
~Staff thinking because I'm Filipino I can speak Tagalog.
~The bride and the groom as they made their grand entrance. They were a stunning couple. So happy and all smiles. A perfect sight to see before I left. Everything was worth it.
I now know what to expect and the work I have to put into this. Today was very fulfilling despite the hiccups that happened. It was definitely a day where I can look back and think, "I am so happy I got into this profession."
So the next step will be apply what I learned to my next upcoming wedding in October. I hope I don't make the same mistakes my planner boss did last Sunday. This time around I will be more prepared.
